Power Your Packaging, Logistics and Retail Workflows with Industry-Standard Linear Barcodes
From the supermarket shelf to the warehouse floor, linear barcodes are the silent workhorses that keep the modern economy moving. Every scanned product, every tracked shipment, every checked-in library book — all of it depends on a thin strip of bars that has to be exactly right, every single time. This app generates rock-solid, linear barcodes (RGB) that pass any scanner, any time, anywhere in the world.
Here’s why you need Linear Barcodes:
- Global Retail Compatibility
EAN-8 and EAN-13 are the backbone of global retail. They identify products at the point of sale in over 100 countries and feed into the GS1 GTIN system. With this app, your packaging artwork carries the exact same barcode logic that retailers, distributors and online marketplaces already trust.
- Four Symbologies, One App
EAN-8 for small items, EAN-13 for standard retail, EAN-13+2 for periodicals and books with issue numbers, and Code 128 for high-density alphanumeric data on logistics labels — all from a single flow element. No more juggling separate plug-ins or external tools for each format. Pick the symbology, type the content, and you’re done.
- Print-Ready SVG Output
Every generated barcode is a clean vector SVG. Drop it into InDesign, Illustrator or any modern Raster Image Processor. Sharp bars at any resolution, from a 30 mm pricing tag to an A0 poster.
- Scanner-Grade Module Proportions
Barcodes only work if their bars and gaps hit precise ratios. This app delegates all sizing, text rendering and layout to bwip-js, so the module proportions stay scanner-perfect by construction. No custom stretch math, no post-processing, no “why won’t this scan” surprises at press check.
- Built for Real Layouts
Need a rotated barcode for a side panel? White-on-black for a dark label? Human-readable text in OCR-B underneath the bars? It’s all there as a parameter. The transparent background mode lets the barcode sit on any colored surface in your InDesign layout, while solid white is one click away when you need it.
- Seamless Workflow Integration
The app replaces the original file with the generated SVG (RGB) and passes it seamlessly to the next step.
We got you covered:
This app generates EAN-8, EAN-13, EAN-13+2 and Code 128 linear barcodes as SVG files using the bwip-js barcode library. The library is the reference open-source implementation of dozens of barcode symbologies and is widely used in industrial and prepress contexts. Output is a vector SVG with explicit width and height in millimeters, so InDesign, Illustrator and print RIPs render the barcode at its exact specified size without further scaling. EAN content is automatically digit-validated, and an EAN-13+2 add-on is recognised through the conventional “123456789012+34” notation.
